There are many ways to visit Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton, but my favorite, and the one with which I created this itinerary, is by combining it with ranch life. You will fully experience the wild and primal nature of these two parks, so close yet so different that you can't exclude one from the other.

Day 1 - 7: Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park, founded in 1872, is a unique natural wonder in the world. Spanning an area as vast as Umbria, it is located above a dormant supervolcano that has shaped a diverse and spectacular landscape. Here, you will find some of the most famous geothermal phenomena on the planet, such as the Old Faithful geyser and the vibrant Grand Prismatic Spring. Open prairies, deep canyons, and coniferous forests serve as a backdrop to rich wildlife, where bison, wolves, deer, and eagles roam freely.

Our tour begins in Jackson Hole, where we will pick up the car at the airport and embark on an extraordinary adventure at Blackwater Creek Ranch, located at the gates of Yellowstone National Park. This authentic western ranch will be our home for six nights, offering not only a convenient base for exploring Yellowstone but also a wide range of unforgettable experiences.

At Blackwater Creek Ranch, you'll have the opportunity to fully embrace the spirit of the West. You can join long guided horseback rides through breathtaking landscapes along rivers, pine forests, and endless prairies, just like real cowboys. For those who prefer to explore the river, trout fishing in the clear waters of Blackwater Creek will be a relaxing and rewarding experience. The ranch's expert guides will teach you the secrets of this ancient art, making the day perfect even for beginners.

There will be no shortage of exciting outdoor adventures: hiking through wild trails offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, or rafting down rushing streams for an adrenaline rush. At sunset, you can relax around the campfire, listening to frontier stories and enjoying an authentic ranch-style dinner, followed by a starry sky that seems to go on forever.

For those who love close contact with animals, the ranch also offers the chance to observe daily rural life activities, such as horse care and cattle gathering.

And if you’re looking for pure relaxation, the ranch offers an outdoor heated pool and hot tubs to unwind after a day full of adventures.

Blackwater Creek Ranch includes:

  • Accommodation: Overnight stays in cozy cabins or rustic western-style rooms.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with traditional dishes prepared at the ranch. Dinners may include barbecues and evenings around the campfire.
  • Horseback Riding: Daily guided horseback rides led by expert cowboys, suitable for both beginners and experienced riders.

Day 8 - 11: Grand Teton National Park

Head towards Grand Teton National Park. Return the car in Jackson Hole as your adventure will be entirely immersed in nature at Triangle X Ranch!

Grand Teton National Park, although different from Yellowstone, is equally fascinating and rich in natural wonders. Dominated by towering peaks that rise abruptly from the surrounding plains, Grand Teton is a true paradise for lovers of wild and unspoiled nature, with landscapes offering an extraordinary spectacle in every season of the year. Here, the mountains reflect in crystal-clear lakes, prairies stretch as far as the eye can see, and wildlife is abundant, with elk, deer, bears, and eagles inhabiting the park.

This land, inhabited for thousands of years, bears the traces of the Shoshone culture, the native tribe that lived in harmony with these mountains. The name "Grand Teton" was given by French-Canadian explorers and literally means "big breast", a tribute to the majesty of the peaks. However, the story of this name is only a small part of the cultural and natural richness of the park.

During our trip, we will stay at Triangle X Ranch, an authentic western experience nestled in the heart of Grand Teton. This historic ranch, run by the same family for five generations, offers a unique and authentic experience for those who want to live the true spirit of the West.

What is included at Triangle X Ranch:

  • Accommodation: Overnight stays in comfortable wooden cabins, furnished in a rustic style but equipped with all modern comforts.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with dishes prepared at the ranch ranging from traditional American cuisine to outdoor barbecues.
  • Horseback Riding: Guided horseback excursions through the magnificent landscapes of Grand Teton, suitable for all skill levels. These rides allow exploration of trails winding through mountains, prairies, and forests.
  • Rafting on the Snake River: Included in the fee, this exciting adventure takes you along the Snake River, through rapids and calm waters, with spectacular views of the mountains and local wildlife.
  • Guided Hikes: Walks and hikes with expert guides who will lead you to the most scenic spots in the park, sharing stories and curiosities about the nature and history of the area.
  • Evening and Recreational Activities: Evening entertainment, which may include campfire nights, live music, and storytelling of western tales. Additionally, the ranch offers movie nights, game nights, and much more for the whole family's enjoyment.

In addition to these included activities, Triangle X Ranch also offers other optional experiences like wildlife photography and hunting, for those who want to further explore the opportunities offered by the wild nature of Grand Teton.
